Fargo: 2 Arkansas Men Charged With Attempted Murder

FARGO, N.D. (northwestmnnow.com) — Two Arkansas men face attempted murder charges following a violent beating outside a Fargo apartment building.

Gerardo Gonzalez and Angel Luis Escobedo Ocampo, both of De Queen, Arkansas, are charged in the August 11 attack.

Prosecutors also charged both men with aggravated assault and a criminal street gang offense.

According to court documents, the victim suffered life-threatening injuries and remained hospitalized for more than a week.

Fargo Police Find Man Severely Injured

Fargo police responded to reports of an assault around 4:39 a.m. on August 11, 2026.

Officers arrived outside an apartment building and found a man lying face down in a large pool of blood.

The victim had suffered extensive injuries to his face and head.

According to the charging documents, his injuries included a broken nose, multiple facial fractures, and bleeding in his brain.

Investigators reported that swelling around his eyes was so severe that doctors had to surgically open them.

Medical staff placed the man on a breathing tube while treating his injuries.

Doctors initially feared he might lose vision in one eye, according to court documents.

Witnesses Describe Violent Beating

A 911 caller and several witnesses described seeing two men attacking the victim outside the apartment building.

Witnesses told investigators the attackers repeatedly kicked and stomped the man’s head, chest, and body.

The assault reportedly lasted several minutes before the suspects left the area.

Investigators used witness statements and surveillance video to reconstruct what happened.

Surveillance Video Helps Identify Suspects

Police reviewed surveillance footage from businesses and properties near the assault scene.

Investigators also recovered bloodstained clothing and a sandal believed to belong to the victim.

According to court documents, the evidence helped identify Gonzalez and Escobedo Ocampo as suspects.

Authorities determined the two men worked together and shared a room at a nearby motel.

Investigators later located and arrested both men.

Evidence Recovered From Motel Room

Police searched the room shared by the suspects during their investigation.

According to the charging documents, investigators recovered items matching those seen in surveillance footage recorded around the assault.

The complaint also describes possible drug-related activity involving the victim before the attack.

Investigators reported finding messages suggesting the victim had attempted to arrange drug transactions earlier that night.

Court documents also state that the victim tested positive for amphetamines.

The reported drug activity does not establish why the assault occurred.

Attempted Murder and Gang-Related Charges Filed

Gonzalez and Escobedo Ocampo each face three criminal charges in Cass County District Court.

  • Attempted murder: Related to the alleged attack and the victim’s life-threatening injuries.
  • Aggravated assault: Connected to the severe physical injuries reported by investigators.
  • Criminal street gang offense: An additional allegation included in the criminal charges.

The allegations will be addressed through the North Dakota court system.
