MOORHEAD, MN (northwestmnnow.com) — Two people were arrested Wednesday morning, October 7, 2026, during a SWAT operation in south Moorhead.
The Red River Regional SWAT Team searched a home in the 1400 block of 20th Street South around 7 a.m.
The search resulted in the recovery of a stolen handgun and about two ounces of methamphetamine, according to Moorhead police.
Seven people were detained during the operation. Two were arrested and later transported to the Clay County Jail.
Two People Arrested During Moorhead Search
Police identified the two people arrested as Antonio Stevens, 39, of Moorhead, and Tatum Benson, 23, of Detroit Lakes.
Stevens was arrested on suspicion of first-degree controlled substance offenses, prohibited possession of a firearm, and possession of stolen property.
Benson was arrested on outstanding warrants from Clay County, Minnesota, and Cass County, North Dakota.
Police did not announce new drug or firearm allegations against Benson in connection with Wednesday’s search.
Both individuals were transported to the Clay County Correctional Facility following their arrests.
Why Police Called in the SWAT Team
The Moorhead Police Department requested help from the regional SWAT team because of safety concerns surrounding the search.
According to the department, the main person involved had a criminal history that increased the risk of serving the warrant.
The SWAT team assisted local police in carrying out the high-risk search at the south Moorhead residence.
Authorities did not provide further details about what led investigators to obtain the search warrant.
Police also did not identify the other five people detained during the operation.
Stolen Handgun and Methamphetamine Recovered
During the search, officers recovered a handgun that authorities identified as stolen.
Investigators also seized approximately two ounces of methamphetamine from inside the residence.
Police have not released details about where the items were found inside the home.
Officials also have not explained how the firearm was stolen or whether additional suspects could face charges.
The department has not released further information about the evidence collected during the operation.
Moorhead Police Investigation Continues
The investigation remains active, according to the police department.
Authorities said no additional information could be released while investigators continue reviewing the case.
The department has not announced whether more arrests or charges are expected.
Both Stevens and Benson were taken to the Clay County Jail after the search.
The allegations against Stevens remain subject to the court process. An arrest does not establish guilt.
Additional information may be released as the investigation continues.
