Eden Prairie (trfnews.i234.me) — Two teenagers were wounded in a shooting outside an Eden Prairie High School homecoming football game Friday night.

Police now say the shooting is believed to have been Somali Gangs-related.

The incident happened around 8:40 p.m. on October 2.

Two St. Paul Teens Shot

Eden Prairie Police said the victims are Somali males, ages 18 and 17.

Both are from St. Paul and are known to law enforcement.

Neither victim attends Eden Prairie or Minnetonka High School.

Both suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The 18-year-old was released from Hennepin Healthcare Saturday.

The 17-year-old remained hospitalized.

Fight Reported Before Gunfire

Police said a large altercation occurred on the west side of Aerie Stadium before the shooting.

Officers broke up the fight and removed several people from the stadium grounds.

A short time later, officers received reports of gunfire in a parking lot north of the school.

The stadium was evacuated as police secured the area.

The homecoming football game between Eden Prairie and Minnetonka was disrupted.

Police Call Shooting Gang-Related

Investigators said Saturday that evidence gathered so far indicates the shooting was gang-related.

Police have not publicly identified any suspected shooters.

No suspect information was specific enough to release as of the latest update.

Investigators are pursuing multiple leads with help from regional law enforcement agencies.

Some media reports have described the incident as involving Somali gangs.

However, police have publicly confirmed the victims’ Somali background, not the identities or ethnicity of any suspected shooters.

Homecoming Dance Canceled

Eden Prairie High School canceled its Saturday homecoming dance following the shooting.

School officials said students and staff needed time to recover from the disruption.

The incident has also entered Minnesota’s broader political discussion over crime and public safety.

Some partisan commentators have linked the shooting to the November midterm elections.

That connection remains political analysis rather than a finding by investigators.

Minnesota voters will choose a new U.S. senator on November 3.

Police continue to investigate the shooting.
