Sabin-Area Crash Seriously Injures 98-Year-Old

Sabin area (northwestmnnow.com) — Two women were injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Clay County.

A 98-year-old woman suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital.

A 78-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The crash happened at 60th Avenue South and 70th Street South.

OnStar Alerted Dispatchers to Crash

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection shortly after 3 p.m.

Authorities said an automatic OnStar crash notification first alerted the Red River Regional Dispatch Center.

Deputies then responded to investigate the reported collision.

A preliminary investigation found one vehicle was traveling east on 60th Avenue South.

That vehicle stopped at a stop sign before entering the intersection.

Authorities said the driver believed the intersection was controlled by stop signs in all directions.

However, traffic traveling south on 70th Street South did not have a stop sign.

The eastbound vehicle then entered the path of a southbound vehicle, investigators said.

Two Passengers Taken to Hospitals

The 98-year-old woman was riding in the front seat of the eastbound vehicle.

Authorities described her injuries as serious.

She was airlifted from the scene to an area hospital for treatment.

The 78-year-old woman was also riding in the eastbound vehicle.

She suffered what authorities described as minor injuries.

Sanford Ambulance transported her to an area hospital.

No additional information about their medical conditions was immediately released.

Crash Remains Under Investigation

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said the crash remains under investigation.

The preliminary findings could change as investigators review additional information.

Drivers should carefully check traffic controls before entering rural intersections.
